The Subscription Box

I'm obsessed with subscription services. Are you familiar with them? Do you have any favorites? These are the ones I'm currently subscribed to:

I also subscribe to the Fabletics monthly subscription service but you don't receive a pre-packed package -- you order what you want. Their leggings are the bees-nees.

So what are these subscriptions? Subscription boxes are great. Do you like bacon? There's a subscription box for that. Stationery and cards? There's a subscription box for that. The frequency of the boxes range from monthly to quarterly, etc. Tonight I want to review the Spring FabFitFun box. It's my favorite subscription service because it will contain all types of "amazing beauty, wellness, fashion, and fitness products." And I love products.

I love the day I receive my box - it's like Christmas four times a year. Most of the time I'm absolutely thrilled with the box - the products are carefully curated and are usually right up my alley. AND (and it's a big AND) you can order "extras" that are offered at a discount to accompany your box. This time around i ordered a couple of extra things - Black Girl Sunscreen with a broad spectrum SPF 30 (it's a great sunscreen for darker skin since it doesn't contain zinc which makes us look ashy). I also extra-order some RevitaBrow from the RevitaLash peeps. Thick brows are in you know.

But let's talk this month's box. FabFitFun has really jumped on the influencer train. So while I'm impatiently waiting for my goody box to arrive, I'm watching "influencers" and celebrities revealing their boxes on Facebook and Insta. This drives me a little nuts because remember... it's like Christmas!!! Part of the joy is discovering unknown goodies. And why do they get theirs first? I'm really just being difficult.

Another thing FabFitFun does... depending on your subscription type, you to customize your box. So I'm going to start with my choices this month and let you know if I'm happy.

The first choice I got to make was between an $84 Show Me Your Mumu Brie Robe, a Deux Lux Demi Backpack worth $75, and an Unplug Meditation Aromatherapy Diffuser worth $55. I didn't want the robe, I had no use for the backpack, so I decided to go with the diffuser. I'm into essential oils - they are my jam. But this particular one fails at really distributing the essential oils into the air. Maybe it will for a smaller space, but it doesn't for a good-sized bedroom. So that choice was pretty much a meh.

My next choices were between a couple pair of sunglasses by Quay Australia (I'm a diehard Rayban girl thought), Sunnylife Lovers Picnic Set and the Korres Wild Rose Vitamin C Brightening Sleeping Facial for $48. I went with the wild rose facial and I'm really happy with the product. It's a yay!

Next up, I got to chose between Lavido Aromatic Body Lotion, Giadzy Copper Plated Measuring Spoons and mystery item. I went with the copper plated measuring spoons because I always need more measuring spoons (no, not really). I just Marie Kondo'ed a whole bunch of measuring spoons. I hope these ones bring me joy. They are pretty.

I'll run through the other items I received:

  • A white S'IP BY S'WELL water bottle. Did I need another water bottle? No. But I found a place for this one right on my bedside table so I can take my thryoid meds first thing in the morning.

  • A Daily Concepts Daily Detox Brush - I haven't used it yet, but I want to.

  • An EleVen by Venus Jump Rope... it's been a while since I've jumped rope. Maybe I'll channel my inner Venus Williams and give it a try.

  • Manna Kadar Champagne Body Scrub - totally something I'll use and it smells divine.

  • Dr. Brandt Skincare Needles No More Baggage Eye De-Puffing Gel - this is a product I already use so I was excited to see it in the box. It retails for $42, which is a little less than I paid for this entire box of stuff!

  • And finally - OUAI Leave In Conditioner. Y'all, this was the first product I opened when I got my box because I'm always looking for a good leave-in conditioner. But OH MAN - this product is not for me. It has a very strong perfume-like smell and I found it overpowering. I felt I really had to limit how much I used because if I used too much, everyone could smell me walking down the street. It's already been trashed.

Overall, I thought the spring box was just okay. The thing I was most excited about was the diffuser and I wasn't happy with how it works. But it's cool - the draw of these subscription services is that I can try new things for less than what I'd pay for them retail. So it's a great deal. And I'll get a new box in a couple of months.

Here's a code if you'd like to try the box out yourself! http://xo.fff.me/meOrB

I'll let you know when the next box of goodies arrives.
